Dua — 6th Moharram (The Imam's Sermon to His Enemies)

دُعَاءُ الْيَوْمِ السَّادِسِ — خُطْبَةُ الإِمَامِ الْحُسَيْنِ لِلْجَيْشِ

6th of Moharram — Imam Husain (AS) delivered his most powerful sermon to the enemy army, reciting their own letters back to them and calling them to righteousness. Most hearts were sealed. He demonstrated that truth must be proclaimed even when it falls on deaf ears.

English

O Allah, our master Imam Husain (AS) delivered a sermon to the enemy army, reading back to them their very own letters, covenants, and the weeping they had written. They fell silent in shame — then persisted in oppression, hearts sealed shut. O Allah, Imam Husain taught us that conveying the truth is obligatory even when backs are turned, and that truth must be proclaimed even when ears have grown deaf to it — for Allah loves those who bear witness to truth even without witnesses from among mankind. O my God, there is within us a weakness that makes us stop speaking truth when it is rejected, and a tendency toward silence exactly when our voice is most needed. Strengthen us with the spirit of Imam Husain and with his courage that did not falter before the multitudes of oppression. O Allah, make our tongues helpers of truth, and make us among those who command the right and forbid the wrong with wisdom and courage. And bless, O Allah, Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
