Dua Nudba — Lamentation for the Hidden Imam

Allāhumma laka l-ḥamdu ʿalā mā jarā bihī qaḍāʾuka Fī awliyāʾika lladhīna staḵlaṣtahum li-nafsika wa dīnika Idh iḵtarta lahum jazīla mā ʿindaka mina n-naʿīmi l-muqīm Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ālih Alladhīna adhhabta ʿanhumu r-rijsa wa ṭahhartahum taṭhīrā Wa jaʿaltahumu l-wasīlata ilayka wal-madḵala ilā jannatik Wa jaʿalta ṭāʿatahum ṭāʿataka wa maʿṣiyatahum maʿṣiyatak Wa awjabta mawaddatahum fī kitābika fa-qulta: Qul lā asʾalukum ʿalayhi ajran illā l-mawaddata fil-qurbā Allāhumma innaka ayyadta dīnaka fī kulli awānin bi-imāmin Aqamtahu ʿalaman li-ʿibādika wa manāran fī bilādik Baʿda an waṣalta ḥablahu bi-ḥablik Wa jaʿaltahu dh-dharīʿata ilā riḍwānik Falammā maḍā mani ḵtartahu min awliyāʾika aẓlamatil-arḍ Wa aẓlamat qulūbu kathīrin min ʿibādik Ayna l-Ḥasan? Ayna l-Ḥusayn? Ayna abnāʾuhumā wa dhurriyyatuhum wa ḵulafāʾuhum? Ayna l-muddaḵaru li-tajdīdi l-farāʾiḍi was-sunan? Ayna l-mutaḵayyaru li-iʿādati l-millati wash-sharīʿah? Ayna l-murtaqabu li-iqāmati l-amri wan-nahy? Ayna l-muḥyī maʿālima d-dīni wa ahlih? Ayna qāṣimu shawkati l-muʿtadīn? Ayna hādimu abniyati sh-shirki wan-nifāq? Bi-nafsī anta min mughayyabin lam yaḵlu minnā Bi-nafsī anta min nāziḥin mā nazaḥa ʿannā Bi-nafsī anta umniyyatu shāʾiqin yatamannā min muʾminin wa muʾminah Dhakarā fa-hājā Hal ilayka yābna Aḥmada sabīlun fa-tulqā? Hal yattaṣilu yawmunā minka bi-ʿidatin fa-naḥẓā? Matā narid manāhilaka r-rawiyyata fa-narwā? Matā tanqaʿu ghalīlanā mina ṣ-ṣadā? ʿAjjil surūra hadhihi l-ummati bi-ẓuhūrih Wajmaʿ shamlahum ʿalā ṭāʿatihī wa wilāyatih Wajʿalnā mimman yudrika dawlatahu l-karīmah Wa yafūzu bi-ṣuḥbatihī wa shafāʿatih Allāhumma anjiz li-waliyyika mā waʿadtah Wa arinā dhālika fī ḥayātinā Wajʿalnā mimman yuʿīnuhu ʿalā iqāmati l-ʿadli wat-tamkīn Wa ṣallillāhumma ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ālihī ṭ-ṭayyibīna ṭ-ṭāhirīn

O Allah, all praise belongs to You for what Your decree has ordained concerning Your guardians whom You chose for Yourself and Your religion — for You chose for them the greatest and most enduring blessings in Your presence. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his family, from whom You removed all impurity and whom You purified completely, and whom You made the means of access to You and the gateway to Your Paradise. You made obedience to them obedience to You, and disobedience to them disobedience to You, and You made love of them obligatory in Your Book, saying: "Say: I ask no reward of you save love for my kin." O Allah, You have supported Your religion in every age with an Imam, whom You established as a beacon for Your servants and a light in Your lands, after You connected their rope to Your rope and made them the means to Your good pleasure. When those whom You chose from among Your guardians departed, the earth grew dark, and the hearts of many of Your servants grew dark with grief. Where is Hasan? Where is Husain? Where are their sons, their descendants, their successors? Where is the one reserved to renew the obligations and the sunna? Where is the one chosen to restore the community and the divine law? Where is the one awaited to establish command and prohibition? Where is the one who gives life to the landmarks of the religion and its people? Where is the one who will break the power of the transgressors? Where is the one who will demolish the structures of shirk and hypocrisy? May my soul be ransom for you, O one who is absent yet never truly gone from us. May my soul be ransom for you, O one far away who has not truly departed from us. May my soul be ransom for you — the longing of every yearning believer, man and woman, who remembers you and is set afire. Is there a way to reach you, O son of Ahmad, that we might meet? Will our day connect with yours in any promise by which we might rejoice? When shall we come to your bountiful springs and drink our fill? When shall our burning thirst be finally quenched? Hasten the joy of this community through his appearance. Gather their hearts together in obedience and walayah to him. Make us of those who witness his blessed reign, and who are blessed with his companionship and his intercession. O Allah, fulfill for Your guardian what You have promised him. Show us that in our lifetime. Make us of those who assist him in establishing justice and authority. And bless, O Allah, Muhammad and his pure and purified family.
