Daily Duas — Prophetic Supplications for Every Moment of the Day

أَدعِيَةُ اليَومِ — أَدعِيَةُ النَّبِيِّ لِكُلِّ لَحظَاتِ اليَومِ وَاللَّيلِ

The Prophetic tradition is dense with duas for every moment of daily life — waking, sleeping, entering and leaving the home, eating and drinking, traveling, entering the mosque, wearing clothing, looking in the mirror, visiting the sick. The Prophet (SAW) modeled a life in which no moment was disconnected from divine remembrance: even the most mundane physical acts — using the bathroom, beginning a meal, lying down to sleep — were occasions for *dhikr* (remembrance) and *du'a* (supplication). Collecting and learning these daily duas transforms the ordinary day into a continuous conversation with Allah — the day begins with His name and ends with His protection, and every act in between is framed by gratitude, intention, and reliance. The Arabic tradition calls these *al-adhkar al-yawmiyya* (the daily remembrances) — the fabric of du'a that holds a Muslim's day together. This article presents the most important daily duas with full Arabic text, transliteration, and translation, organized by the moment of use.

Morning: Waking Up

Upon waking: Al-hamdu lillah alladhi ahyana ba’da ma amatana wa ilayhi al-nushur “All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us, and unto Him is the resurrection.” (Bukhari)

Morning du’a (from the three Quls): After waking, recite Surah al-Ikhlas, Surah al-Falaq, and Surah al-Nas three times each, blowing into cupped hands and wiping over the body. The Prophet (SAW) did this every morning and evening and before sleeping. See [[juz-amma]] for the texts.

Morning protective du’a: Bismillah alladhi la yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i wa huwa al-sami’u al-‘alim “In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” — To be said three times in the morning and three times in the evening. (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

Bathroom Etiquette

Before entering: Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba’ith “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female evil spirits.” (Bukhari, Muslim) — Said before entering, entering with the left foot.

After leaving: Recite: Ghufranaka — “I seek Your forgiveness.” (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

Entering and Leaving the Home

Entering the home: Bismillah, walajtu wa ala Allahi tawakkaltu “In the name of Allah, I enter, and in Allah I place my trust.” (Recorded in du’a collections)

Or recite Bismillah and Ayat al-Kursi when entering, and greet family with Assalamu Alaikum.

Leaving the home: Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘ala Allah, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah “In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. There is no power or strength except with Allah.” (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi) — The Prophet (SAW) said whoever says this in the morning will be told by an angel: “You are guided, and protected, and sufficient for you.”

Food and Drink

Before eating: Bismillah — Briefly, or in full: Bismillahi wa ‘ala barakati Allah “In the name of Allah and upon the blessings of Allah.” (Abu Dawud)

If one forgets to say Bismillah at the start: Bismillahi fi awwalihi wa akhirihi — “In the name of Allah at its beginning and end.” (Bukhari)

After eating: Al-hamdu lillahi alladhi at’amana wa saqana wa ja’alana muslimin “All praise is for Allah who fed us, gave us drink, and made us Muslims.” (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

Or the shorter form: Al-hamdu lillahi

When invited for a meal: Make du’a for the host after eating: Allahumma at’im man at’amani wa asqi man asqani “O Allah, feed the one who fed me and give drink to the one who gave me drink.” (Muslim)

Entering and Leaving the Mosque

Entering the mosque (with right foot first): Bismillah, wa al-salatu wa al-salamu ‘ala rasulillah. Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik “In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.” (Muslim, Ibn Majah)

Leaving the mosque (with left foot first): Bismillah, wa al-salatu wa al-salamu ‘ala rasulillah. Allahumma inni as’aluka min fadlik “In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.” (Muslim, Ibn Majah)

Clothing

When putting on clothes: Al-hamdu lillahi alladhi kasani hadha al-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin “All praise is for Allah who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me with no power or strength from me.” (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi) — The Prophet (SAW) said whoever says this when dressing will have their past sins forgiven.

Travel

Before beginning a journey (upon sitting in the vehicle or mount): Subhana alladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila rabbina la-munqalibun “Glory be to Him who subjugated this for us, for we were not capable of it, and to our Lord we shall surely return.” (43:13-14) Then: Allahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wa al-taqwa, wa minal-‘amali ma tarda “O Allah, we ask You in this journey for righteousness and God-consciousness, and for deeds that please You.”

Upon returning home: Ayibuna, ta’ibuna, ‘abiduna, li-rabbina hamidun “We return, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord.” (Muslim)

Sleeping

Before sleeping (lying down): Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya “In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.” (Bukhari)

Recite:

When waking from a nightmare: A’udhu billahi minal-shaytanir-rajim “I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.” — Then spit to the left three times, turn onto the other side, and do not tell anyone the dream.

Sneezing

When sneezing: Al-hamdu lillah “All praise is for Allah.”

When someone else sneezes and says Alhamdulillah: Yarhamuka Allah — “May Allah have mercy on you.”

The sneezer responds: Yahdiykumu Allah wa yuslihu balakum — “May Allah guide you and set your affairs right.”

Entering the Market

La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, yuhyi wa yumit, wa huwa hayyun la yamut, biyadihi al-khayr, wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir “There is no god but Allah, alone without partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is the Ever-Living who does not die. In His hand is all good, and He is over all things powerful.”

The Prophet (SAW) said whoever says this in the market will receive a great reward and all their sins forgiven. (Tirmidhi)

When Seeing Something That Pleases You

Ma sha’Allah, la quwwata illa billah “Whatever Allah wills; there is no power except with Allah.” (18:39) — Saying this prevents envy from harming what you admire, and fulfills the obligation to acknowledge that all blessings are from Allah.
