Masjid al-Haram & the Sacred Kaaba
المَسْجِدُ الحَرَامُ وَالكَعْبَةُ المُشَرَّفَة
The most sacred site in Islam, containing the Kaaba — the cube-shaped structure draped in black cloth (Kiswa) that Muslims face in prayer. Built by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Ismail (AS), it stands at the center of Masjid al-Haram, the world's largest mosque. The Hajar al-Aswad (Black Stone) is set in the eastern corner; Maqam Ibrahim and the Zamzam well are nearby.
Why it Matters
The Kaaba is the Qibla of the entire Muslim world — the direction of all salah. Tawaf (circumambulation) around the Kaaba is the first rite of both Hajj and Umrah. For the Dawoodi Bohra community, every Hajj and Umrah begins here and the spiritual merit of prayer here is 100,000 times that of anywhere else.
